Dear student!

The course Discourse Practice was designed for 3rd- and 4th-year correspondent students of the English Language Department of MSLU.

Trough out terms 5, 6 and 7 you will have to study a number of authentic texts, listen to audiotapes and then fulfill various tasks. This will help you to improve your command of English, develop your speaking, reading and listening skills, and broaden your cultural horizons. Reading fiction will also be a substantial component of students' curriculum this year. This course will aid in dealing with the reading and interpretation of short stories by American and British writers and is aimed at the expansion of understanding of the short story beyond the literal and simple recollection of factual details. The course involves you in intensive studies with emphasis on your active response through discussion and debates. The course is specially designed to motivate you to learn effectively on your own and at your own pace.
