Intelligent reading practice: tasks for non-guided work is designed for 3rd year students majoring in cross-cultural communication at the School of Intercultural Communication, Minsk State Linguistic University. It aims at developing skills in interpreting authentic English texts as well as the ability to use active vocabulary in various contexts. The creative tasks offered will help the students to look at the material under consideration from different angles and thus develop critical thinking. This electronic textbook focuses on the students’ independent (non-guided) work and can be used separately or as an addition to the main coursebook
The material is divided into three parts. Part I is aimed at end-of-semester out-of-class revision of active vocabulary. Part II provides instructions for non-guided reading and offers questions to check the students’ understanding of the text. It puts stress on vocabulary work and creative assignments. Part III contains individual reading tasks which allow the students to check comprehension of the book, encourage them to expand their passive vocabulary and consider different ways of interpreting the content of the book.
